Clinical experience

I have been working as a Consultant, Anaesthesia with special interest in the Chronic pain management at the Worcestershire Royal Hospitals, Worcester. My clinical responsibilities include sessions in Anaesthetics and Chronic pain management. I am leading a multiprofessional team in the pain management.

I am participating in clinical governance related activities and also involved in teaching activities.

Chronic Pain Management

  • The one-year Advanced training (Fellowship) in Pain Management in West of Scotland region, Glasgow provided me an excellent experience in multidisciplinary approach to pain management. I am working in a unit comprising of 14 Consultants, 3 Psychologists, Nurse Specialists, a Neurosurgeon, a Psychiatrist, Physiotherapists and Occupational therapist.
  • Apart from common therapeutic interventions in pain, I have experience in specialised techniques such as, Cryoablation, Radio-frequency denervation, spinal endoscopy, and spinal cord stimulator insertion.
  • As part of my Fellowship in pain, I have regularly attended the children’s chronic pain clinic at Royal Hospital for sick children, Glasgow.
  • Palliative care - I have undergone eight weeks training in palliative care centre. I have also attended the Hospice centre. Working with a team of palliative care Physician enabled me understand the various modes of pain management, including intrathecal drug delivery, for this group of patients.
  • Good exposure and experience in managing variety of chronic pain problems with interventional techniques e.g.

      • Facet joint injections, median branch Rhizotomy
    • Neck Pain

      • Lumbar sympathetic blocks

Teaching

General Practioner/trainees

I did a half day teaching for FY2 trainees from various specialities on basic fundamentals of 'Acute and Chronic pain management' in November 2009. I also delivered a lecture for GPs on ‘Role of Primary care physicians in the management of Neuropathic pain, in December 2009.

Examination courses:

I have been teaching for last four years on Primary FRCA OSCE/VIVA course, conducted every four months, and on Final FRCA MCQ course, every six months at University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire. At Sheffield also I am contributing to viva practice for FRCA examination trainees on regular basis.
