Specialist Shoulder and Upper Limb Surgeon

David SelveyDavid was born in Johannesburg South Africa and completed his undergraduate training at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He completed his junior training in the UK before returning to South Africa to specialise as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Cape Town. Here he aquired the South African Colleges Fellowship in Orthopaedic as well as a Masters degree in Orthopaedics.

After qualifying as a specialist David then spent two years in Dublin, super-specialising. Here he completed the Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital Upper Limb Fellowship. While waiting to take up his post as a Consultant Surgeon at the Alexandra hospital in Redditch in the West Midlands of the UK, he spent some time in a Trauma Fellowship at the Sunningbrooke and Womans’ Hospital in Toronto.

David specialises in the treatment of upper limb problems which includes joint replacements and arthroscopic (key hole) procedures on the shoulder, elbow and wrist. He is a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and returns annually to Dublin as a faculty member on the Dublin Arthroscopic Surgery for Sports Injuries course.

He also annually attends “by invitation only” the Mayo Clinic’s Advanced Elbow Surgery course. This is run by Bernard Morrey and Shawn O’Driscoll two of the worlds leading elbow surgeons and David considers it a great privilage to make this annual pilgramage to this “Teaching the teachers” course.

David is married to Susan Williams the MD of a computer software company, has 4 children and lives in the country near Inkberrow in Worcestershire. He dabbles in village cricket and plays hockey occasionally and has run two marathons. David has ambitions of writing a novel when he finally finds the time.
